October 1965 and it was time for the next Searchers' single. The one before - written by Chris & Mike - didn't crack the Top Ten so the boys tried an American tune again, this time Bobby Darin's When I Get Home. Mike sings lead with Chris doing the harmony vocal and Frank also supports the singers occasionally. The b-side - a rocking tune - is another Chris Curtis' compostion and sung by it's composer together with Mike.

Compared to the earlier releases not too many countries gave this song a chance.

The only country where it charted was England, it reached no. 35.

There's an interesting chapter about the single in Frank Allen's book Me And The Searchers.

Find out what he thinks what was wrong with the way the Searchers did the song and how deseperate - especially Chris - they were.

and a Spanisch release from 1966, coupled with Take Ir Or Leave It: Pye Hispavox HPY 337-30:

When I Get Home is mainly seen as a weaker record by the Searchers, but nevertheless I like it a lot, it has superb vocals, mainly by Mike, interesting changes and a tight production. And if you compare it with Bobby Darin's original record it is so much stronger. Too bad for the boys, this release should have been a top ten hit.

Thanks to Friedhelm once again.
